RedTail Men Take 4th at NJCAA Indoor Regionals

STORM LAKE - The Hawkeye Community College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed in Storm Lake, Iowa for their first ever NJCAA Regional Indoor Championships over this past weekend.

The two day meet scored 20 total events and showcased several strong RedTail performers. The men's Track & Field team finished 4th overall in the team standings as they would collect 68.5 total points.     

Headlining the men's running events would once again be the freshman Brandon Beard. In the 200 Meter dash Beard would sprint to the line in a time of 22.26 to finish runner-up in the event. Beard would also put together a strong showing in the 400 Meter dash, as he would run a time of 49.52 and take home 4th place. Brandon then teamed up with Cole Willert, Jack Jensen, and his brother Kenneth, to compete in the 4x400 Meter dash. The all-freshman squad of RedTails finished 3rd in a loaded event after putting together a final time of 3:20.93.

Riley Little qualified for the 60 Meter Hurdles finals after posting a preliminary time of 8.58 seconds. Little would improve his time in the finals, as the freshman would post a time of 8.54 and earn a 4th place finish for the event.

The RedTails had a strong showing in the 800 Meter run behind the performances of Konnor Roth and Landon Boomsma. Roth finished in a time of 1:57.77 to take home 2nd place in the event, while Boomsma crossed the line in 2:01.10 to finish 6th.

The Men's Mile run also featured a strong showing from a couple of RedTails. The Cross Country teammates of David Thompson, Peter Torkleson, and Ryan Millikin finished 5th, 6th, and 8th respectively in the event. Torkleson also put together a strong race in the 3000 Meter run as he would finish in 9:26.04 and collect a 7th place finish.

The Hedrick, Iowa native, Zackary Conger, would also shine for the RedTails in the Men's High Jump and bring home a 4th place finish following his best jump of 1.9 Meters.

The RedTail Track & Field teams will be traveling to Lubbock, Texas next to compete at the NJCAA National meet hosted by Texas Tech University on Friday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 3rd.
