OTTUMWA- The Hawkeye Community College RedTail Sports Shooting team headed to Ottumwa, IA for the Indian Hills Community College trap shooting meet.
The meet consisted of 24 women and 67 men shooters. Leading the RedTails on the women's side would be Kennady Nie with a 5th place finish. Nie would end up hitting 93/100 birds, including a stretch of 50 straight on the back 50 birds. Finishing right behind Nie would be Emily Klein with a total of 92 birds and a 6th place finish. Rounding out the scoring for the RedTails would be Courtney Prochaska with a total of 80 birds and a 20th place finish.
Leading the men's side was Ross Wolken with a 3rd place finish overall after hitting 98 birds. Jacob Kaisand, Jordan Lentz, and Nick Bucknell all ended with 96 birds to earn 12th, 13th, and 14th respectively. Marcus Draves also had a top-20 finish as he ended with 95 birds and an 18th place finish.
The meet featured 21 different squads from 8 different schools. There were 3 RedTail squads that made the trip and all competed very well. The RedTail Royal squad consisting of Marcus Draves, Jacob Kaisand, Ross Wolken, Emily Klein, and Jordan Lentz took home a 1st place finish after totaling 477 birds. The RedTail Orange squad of Blake Wolf, Nick Bucknell, Kennedy Nie, Courtney Prochaska, and Daniel Swartzrock tallied 433 birds and a 13th place finish. The RedTail White team, consisting of Zachary Abbas and Jared Shadle, hit on 174 birds to earn a 18th place finish overall.
The Hawkeye Community College RedTails consisting of Ross Wolken, Jordan Lentz, Jacob Kaisand, Nick Bucknell, and Marcus Draves propelled the team as whole to a runner-up finish as a team with 481 birds.
The RedTails head to Cedar Rapids on October 21 for their next meet at 10AM.
