WATERLOO- The RedTails Volleyball team hosted the John Wood Blazers this Wednesday, August 28, and attracted an impressive crowd for the event. The match took place in the H.E.S.C. and the atmosphere and energy was as electric as the teams competing.
The RedTails came out firing with strong play on the offensive end. They finished the match with 33 kills and an impressive 4 aces. However, the visiting Blazers showed resilience on the road and competed hard throughout the night.
Even with tough play from RedTails like Paige Eiffler and Alison Godwin- who led the way with kills, John Wood still found ways to fend off the RedTails fast striking offense. The Blazers won all 3 sets in hard fought battles, with scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-18.
Tough performances on the defensive end from Redtails libero Haylee Keune and other athletes could help boost the teams chances at making a national championship run, as the sophmore averaged over 5 digs per set.
The Redtails will be back on the road this Friday, August 30th, to compete in a tournament hosted by Southeast Community College. Head Coach Scott Weston looks to bounce back and return to Waterloo victorious after a slow start to the season.
