RedTail Men’s Track and Field Compete at the Jack Jennett Invitational at UNI
CEDAR FALLS- RedTail Men's Track and Field competed at the Jack Jennett Invitational at UNI on January 20th, placing second overall at the meet.
"The men rocked out this weekend starting out strong at the Jack Jennett Invitational," said coach Hunter Lavallee. "These guys brought a different kind of energy to their competition and were ready to battle. The team as a whole posted a multitude of new lifetime and season bests!"
The Sprints and Hurdles crew had an incredible performance around the board. Brigham Daniel, Jeron Shaw, and Kaden Miller led the sprints crew in the 60m dash, qualifying for the Final. Daniel posted a lifetime personal best with a time of 7.09, tying for second place. Shaw matched his lifetime personal best with a 7.26, securing sixth place. Finally, Miller debuted his first ever 60m dash with a time of 7.28, getting eighth overall. The rest of the crew also competed very well, posting 60m times from Sean Knockel (SB- 7.51), Orlando Vivians (7.64), Kewan McCully (PB- 7.81). Miller followed up his 60m dash with a solid season opener in the 200m dash, grabbing 5th place with a time of 23.25.
The Hurdles crew kept on the gas, led by freshman Noah Sheridan debuting his first collegiate 60m hurdle race. Sheridan takes second overall with a blistering 8.92 performance. His crew followed up in exceptional fashion. Kenny Cutler took 4th (9.30) and Zane Vance took 5th (9.33). Vance was able to match his lifetime personal best with a mark of 9.16 in the preliminary round.
The Men's team brought some intense heat to the jumping events. Freshman Matthew Benedict won the High Jump competition, clearing a height of 1.90m (SB). Gannon O'Hara improved his SB with a long jump of 6.19m, securing fifth place.
The Men's Middle Distance squad got to work on some foot speed at the Jack Jennett Invitational. In the 400m, sophomore Chase Mullenix placed seventh overall, running a 0:52, freshman Brock Meyer ran a 0:53, and Freshman Austin Langreck ran a 0:55.
The Distance squad opened up with stellar performance across the board. D'Artagnon Beaver, Brennan Sauser, and Zach Niederklopher got things rolling with the mile. Beaver placed second with a huge personal record of 4:26, Brennan Sauser was close behind in sixth place with a time of 4:41, and Zach Niederklopher wrapped things up in 11th place with a time of 4:56. Freshman Hunter Hughlette and Kory Sweeney got to debut their first 800 of the year and cinched 15th and 16th place, stopping the clock at 2:17.
For the Throwing team, Tino Tamayo led the way to finals and finished in eighth place with a throw of 12.56m. Brandt Williams barely missed the cut, placing 10th with a throw of 12.56m. Ben Fransen threw 12.19, Aaron Campbell threw 11.42, Aterryonn Williams threw 9.17, and Beau Brackemeyer threw 9.35. Tamayo followed up his performance with a competitive finish, placing 6th in weight with a personal record of 13.64m. This moves him to #2 on Hawkeye's All-Time Performance list. Campbell also made finals placing 8th with a PR of 12.26m. Brandt threw a PR of 12.22. To wrap up the meet, Fransen threw 10.29, Williams threw 9.76, and Brackenmeyer threw 8.03.
