RedTail Men’s Track and Field Team Competes in Two Meets in One Weekend

DES MOINES–On April 12, some of the Men's Track and Field Team traveled to the Drake Stadium in Des Moines to compete in the Jim Duncan Invitational. The men had a very successful day, and a lot of personal records were received. Our RedTails had a beautiful day for an outdoor track meet even though they were running in some windy conditions. Head coach, Scott Roberts said, "We had a tremendous weekend for track."

In the 100-meter dash, freshman Liam Carlson received 11th place running a time of 10.89 seconds. 

In the 200-meter dash sophomore Carter Even ran a time of 22.55 seconds, which gave him 12th place. 

The 400-meter dash was run by sophomore Sean Knockel running a time of 50.87 seconds, where he came in eighth place. 

Noah Sheridan, a sophomore, ran the 110 hurdles and he got 20th place (15.62 seconds). 

Sophomore Kenny Cutler had a personal record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.47 seconds. He received eighth place overall. Noah Sheridan also ran that race, where he came in 13th place (58.54 seconds). 

Both of the men's relay teams had personal and seasonal records with their times. The 4x100 was run by Caden Stimmel, Evan Kearney, Carter Even, and Liam Carlson. They ran the race in 42.39 seconds and received third place. 

In the 4x400 relay, the men came in fourth place with a time of 3:20.31. The runners were Kenny Cutler, Evan Kearney, Sean Knockel, and Kaden Miller. 

For the field events, freshman Nathan McFarland came in 13th place with a jump of 1.85 meters. 

Sophomore Tino Tamayo came in 14th place for the shot put, throwing 14.21 meters. His teammate Adam Smith, a freshman, was right behind him in 15th place (13.65 meters). 

In the men's javelin throw sophomore Brandt Williams came in sixth place with 50.45 meters. Overall the men had a great meet at the Jim Duncan Invitational. 

CEDAR RAPIDS–The following day the men joined the rest of the RedTails at Mount Mercy for the Mustang Distance Carnival and Open. 

In the 100-meter dash, Liam Carlson received eighth place running a time of 10.89 seconds. Freshman Benjamin Hansen ran a personal record with 11.93 seconds, and this gave him 43rd place. Freshman Alec Schneider came in 50th place with a time of 12.50 seconds. Freshman Jackson Rhomberg also ran the race, however, he did not score. 

In the 110-meter hurdles, Noah Sheridan almost broke a Hawkeye record with his time of 15.16 seconds. Roberts said, "He just missed our school record by a couple of hundreds of a second." He came in third place overall. Kasey Wirtjes, a freshman, was not far behind in eighth place with a time of 15.96 seconds. Freshman Tyler Bartels ran 16.86 seconds, giving him 13th place. And Kenny Cutler and Jaxon Weber did not score during the race. 

The 110-meter hurdles were run by Noah Sheridan, who received third place (14.98 seconds). This is a personal record for him. Kasey Wirtjes also had a personal best with a time of 15.62 seconds. He got sixth place overall. 

In the men's open 200-meter, Tyler Bartles came in 38th place (23.82 seconds). Benjamin Hansen, a freshman, received 49th place (24.71 seconds). 

In the 400-meter Carter Even had a personal record of 50.98 seconds (11th place). Caden Stimmel also had a personal record with a time of 52.37 seconds. He came in 23rd place. Kaden Miller was not far behind in 25th place (52.56 seconds). Anthoneih Kopsa ran a time of 54.89 (33rd place). 

In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Noah Sheridan came in second place with a time of 55.78 seconds. This was a seasonal best for him. Great race Noah! 

In the open 800, freshman Jess Cornick received a personal record with a time of 1:59.34. He came in 11th place. Sophomore Austin Langreck came in 43rd place (2:17.17). 

Brennen Sager had a great race in the open 1500, as he got a personal record. He received third place with a time of 4:21.48. In the 1500-meter invite, Jess Cornick ran a time of 4:11.83, and he came in fifth place. 

For the field events, Brandt Williams threw 44.09 meters in the discus throw. He came in sixth place, and this is a personal record for him. Adam Smith wasn't far behind in eighth place throwing 43.10 meters. Beau Brackenmeye also had a personal record with a throw of 33.56 meters. This gave him 29th place.

All of our RedTails had personal records in the men's hammer throw. Tino Tamayo threw 47.56 meters, which gave him 13th place. In 14th place was Brandt Williams with 47.09 meters. Beau Brackenmeyer came in 19th place (42.58 meters). And Adam Smith threw 33.26 meters (31st place). Great job to all of our throwers! 

In the high jump, sophomore Matthew Benedict came in second place with 1.90 meters. And freshman Nathan McFarland came in fourth place also jumping 1.90 meters. 

Tyler Bartles, a freshman, jumped 5.60 meters in the long jump, where he received 16th place. 

In the shot put, Tino Tamayo had an amazing throw of 14.46 meters, which gave him second place. Adam Smith threw 13.89 meters (fifth place). Tyler Bartles had a personal record of 9.52 meters (32nd place). 

Overall, it was an excellent weekend for our RedTails Track and Field Teams. "We had many season and personal records this weekend," said Roberts. "We are at the point in the season where we need those times to start coming down, and they are." Next week the RedTails will be competing at Augustana College for the Augustana Meet of Champions on April 19, 2024. Great job this weekend RedTails! Roberts said, "We are very pleased and proud of the group at this time."
