RedTails Lose to #7 DMACC
The RedTail Softball Team travelled to Boone, Iowa, to face #7 ranked Des Moines Area Community College. The RedTails dropped both, losing game one 11-3 in six innings, and losing game two 6-1.
Game One: 11 (DMACC), 3 (HCC)
The Bears started on top in the first inning, scoring three quick runs on a single, RedTail error, sacrifice fly, and two doubles. They added one run in the second inning and three runs in the third to go up 7-0.
The RedTails saw two runs cross home plate in the fourth inning. Courtney Hemsley started with a single and advanced to second when Hailey Harbour sacrifice bunted and got on base from a Bear error. Harbour was advanced to second when Ceyaira Barron laid down a sacrifice bunt. Both runs scored off a Dharma Woodruff double. This put the score at 7-2 in favor of the Bears.
DMACC responded with three more runs, putting the game at 10-2.
In the top of the fifth, to stay alive in the game, the RedTails needed at least one run to continue play. Emilee Bergmann started by forcing a Bear error and scored on a Mya Chamberlin double.
Unfortunately, the RedTails couldn't cross any more runs, and DMACC scored one more on a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to complete the run rule.
Woodruff led the way at the plate, going 1-2 with two runs batted in. Chamberlin added a hit and run batted in. On the mound, Adelyn Sienknecht pitched five innings, giving up nine hits, eleven runs, just six earned, and three walks.
Game Two: 6 (DMACC), 1 (HCC)
The Bears started on top again in game two, scoring one run in the first inning.
The RedTails tied up the game in the second. Harley Gaudet and Delaney Eickert both singled. With Gaudet at third, Rylie Devlin put the ball in play to score her. Dailyn Marine walked, but the threat was ended early by the Bears.
DMACC scored two runs in the third inning, giving them a 3-1 lead. They scored off a two run homerun.
It was a pitchers dual until the sixth inning, when the Bears scored their final three runs of the game, making it a 6-1 ball game.
The RedTails threatened when Bergmann hit a two out rally single, but Hawkeye was unable to plate her.
At the plate, Gaudet led the way going 2-3 with one run scored. Devlin also had one run batted in. On the mound, Chamberlin took the loss, going 5.1 innings, giving up nine hits, six runs, six earned, five walks, and one strikeout. Eads also pitched 0.2 innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
The RedTails play again on Saturday, April 19th at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. Game time is set for 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
