RedTails Lose to Eagles

The RedTail Softball Team traveled to Cedar Rapids to face #14 Kirkwood in a doubleheader. The RedTails dropped both, losing game one 18-1 and game two 8-0.

Game One: 18 (KCC), 1 (HCC)

The game got away from the RedTails quick when they gave up nine runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning.

The one run of the game for the RedTails came when Emilee Bergmann hit a double and scored on a Mya Chamberlin single.

Kirkwood tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning to go up 18-1 and shut down the offense of Hawkeye in the top of the fifth to end the game.

Chamberlin led at the plate, going 1-1 with one run batted in and one walk. Bergmann was 1-2 with a double and one run scored, and Harley Gaudet added a hit herself.

Game Two: 8 (KCC), 0 (HCC)

The RedTails had two runners on in the top of the first when Lucy Lebo forced an Eagle error and Jordan Eads walked, but Hawkeye was unable to score either runner.

Kirkwood scored one run in the bottom of the first. They added four runs in the second inning to go up 5-0. The Eagles added one run in the third and two runs in the fourth to go up 8-0.

Looking to stay alive, the RedTails were down to their last two outs. A single from Dharma Woodruff saw a small spark, but the Eagles quickly shut down the RedTails.

At the plate, Woodruff led going 1-2. Chamberlin took the loss, going four innings, giving up eight runs, seven earned, four walks, and one strikeout.

The RedTails have their last regular season conference match up on Sunday, April 27^th at Ellsworth Community College. Game time is set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
