Roberts Named Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach
WATERLOO, IA - Scott Roberts has been named the Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach for the men's and women's programs at Hawkeye Community College. Roberts joins the RedTails after his most recent coaching position as the head girls cross country/track and field coach at Muscatine Community Schools. Prior to Muscatine, Roberts served as the head coach at Lindenwood University as well as an assistant coach at the University of Memphis, University of Texas El Paso (UTEP), University of Alabama, Iowa State University, and Drake University.

As the head coach of Lindenwood University, Roberts helped lead the program in transition from the NAIA to the NCAA DII level. He coached 22 NCAA All-Americans, 10 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) champions, one men's cross country conference championship, and two NCAA DII top-25 finishes. In his six years at the helm, the program produced 69 All-MIAA honors, and 47 U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) All-Central Region Awards. In addition to the success on the course and track, his athletes also excelled in the classroom, amassing 22 MIAA Academic Excellence awards, 16 MIAA Scholar-Athlete honors, and 238 MIAA Academic Honor Roll accolades.
As the assistant coach at UTEP and the University of Alabama, Coach Roberts worked primarily with the sprints, hurdles, jumps, and combined-events. He coached 30 NCAA All-Americans, two Olympians, five SEC Champions, and two SEC Freshman of the Year. During his 11 years at Iowa State University, Roberts focused on the women's sprints, hurdles, and combined-events where he coached 24 NCAA All-Americans, 10 Big 12 Champions, two Olympians, and one World Championships finalist.
Coach Roberts received a Masters from Ohio State University, and a Bachelors from Midland Lutheran College (Midland University). He is a USA Track & Field (USATF) Coaching Education Lead Instructor, and has his USATF Level I and II certifications in sprints, hurdles, relays, and jumps. In addition to his USATF certifications, he also earned his Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) certification.
Roberts will begin his head coach duties on January 9th, 2023.
