RedTail Golf Kicks Off Fall Season
The Hawkeye men's golf team takes home second place in the opening tournament of the year in Fort Dodge, IA.
The men's team had a solid performance, shooting a team score of 298 and finishing second in the overall standings out of the nine teams competeing. Luke Caleazzi and Grant Dekruyf both tied for fifth shooting 73. Sacha Brown tied for eleventh shooting 75 and Malker Andersson tied for twentieth shooting a round of 77.
The men's second group had some strong finishes as well with Brock Shaw shooting a 77, Ethan Farrell shooting 79, and Max Naumann and Carson Slezak both shooting an 81.
For the first time ever Hawkeye now has the ability to offer women's golf with a young team they are just starting out but the future's looking bright, with Chase Doland firing a 79 and taking home a solo third place and setting the Hawkeye women's record. Olivia Hammel also competed shooting a 94 and taking home a tenth place finish
Head coach Micah Destival had some praising words after the RedTails first tournament of the new season.
"I thought we did some great things out there in our first tournament of the fall," he said. Chase Doland, finished third while firing a 79 to set the initial women's school record so it will be fun to see the women try and chase that down the rest of the year. Solid performance out of Luke, Grant and Sacha and it was nice to see some of the second group play well."
The RedTails next matchup will come Thursday, September 1, at the Eagle Ridge General Golf Course as they compete in the Clarke Fall Invite teeing off at 10:30am.
