RedTails Mens Golf Wins Hawkeye Fall Classic
WATERLOO, IA.- The RedTails Men's Golf team competed in the Hawkeye Fall Classic and were able to take home first place as a team and have Melker Andersson take home first place individually.
The men's team had a solid performance on their home course as they shot 286 (-2) as a team led by Melker Andersson shooting a 67, a new Hawkeye record. Following him was Grant Dekruyf shooting a 71 tied for second place. Ethan Walker shot a 73 taking home fourth place. Luke Galeazzi shooting a 75 took home fifth place. Rounding out the A team was Sacha Brown shooting a 77 to take home seventh place.
The RedTails B team also played very well placing second only behind the A team for Hawkeye. Austin Reynolds led the way tying for second place shooting a 71. Max Naumann shot a 76 which gave him a sixth place. Following him was Brox Shaw who shot a 78 which was good enough to put him in a tie for eighth. Carson Slezak tied for tenth shooting a 79. Rounding out the B team was Emil Christensen shooting an 81 which tied him for 12th place.
The women's team also competed and played very well. Olivia Hammel shot an 84 and took home 1st place individually. Right behind her was Chase Doland shooting an 85 which gave her a second place finish.
Head coach Micah Destival had some positive words after the RedTails were able to get the win at their home course.
"It was fun to continue our run of good play today and see Melker Andersson tie the single round school record of 67 and also have an under par team score," he said. "The ladies played great as well with Olivia Hammel taking 1st place and Chase Doland coming in 2nd. Looking forward to Wednesday in Indianola for the women and Friday in Waverly for the men."
The RedTails next matchup will come Wednesday September 21, at Indianola Country Club for the women as they compete in the Simpson Fall Invite teeing off at 10:00am. For the men's team their next competition will come Friday September 23, at Prairie Links Golf Course as they compete in a two day tournament in the Wartburg invite teeing off at 8:00am.
