RedTail Men Third at the Jim Currel Invitational
AMES–The RedTail Men's Golf team competed against several of the top teams in the conference on Wednesday at Ames Golf & Country Club in Ames. Conditions were the toughest of the year with gusty winds over 40mph and some afternoon rain, but the RedTails were able to jump out to a five shot lead after round one with a 298. The second round wasn't as kind, however, as a 325 finish led to the RedTails ending up in 3rd place.
Melker Andersson led the RedTails shooting rounds of 70-81 to finish in a tie for fourth.
"Andersson has really come on strong the past three weeks with some excellent play in some very nasty weather" said coach Micah Destival.
Austin Reynolds and Luke Galeazzi also found success at Ames with Austin firing rounds of 74-81 (11th Place) and Luke adding rounds of 73-81 (12th). Rounding out the top five were Grant Dekruyf who fired an 82-80 (18th) and Sacha Brown who shot 81-84 (T22nd).
Other RedTails in action were Max Nauman 79-80 (T14th), Carson Slezak 84-88 (T30th) and Emil Christensen 82-90 (T30th).
Coach Destival was pleased with the effort shown.
"This team continues to improve and we did some real nice things in the morning 18 holes," he said. "It's tough playing 36 in a day and we may have been a little tired from the winds, but we'll bounce back at the next tournament. We'll continue practicing to tighten up a couple leaks that seem to cost us a few strokes each tournament which hold us back from playing even better."
The RedTails will finish their fall season at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora October 17-18 for the Regional Preview.
