RedTails Overcome Weak Day 1 at National Preview to Finish in 7th Place out of 16 Teams
The Hawkeye RedTail men's golf team continued their extended weekend in Plymouth, Indiana. The drive from Waterloo to Plymouth was an intense six hours, so the team decided to split it up. They bunked in Morris, Illinois, on Sunday night and would make the shortened three-hour trip from there to Plymouth. Swan Lake Golf Resort would be the host course for this 16-team event that hosted teams from across the country.
Sophomore Kaeden Anderson finished as the highest RedTail on the leaderboard, finishing in solo 14th place. Anderson carded scores of 77 and 69 for a total of 146 (+2). The next best finisher for Hawkeye was sophomore Will Steege, who finished tied for 43rd place with eight other golfers. Steege completed rounds of 76 and 78 to total 154 (+10). Coach Micah Destival shared his thoughts on the team's bounce back after day 1. "Second tournament in a row where we have started out slow and then played a better second day. We flew up the leaderboard on day two from 14th to 7th, thanks to a great performance by Kaeden. We've been playing ok, but we need to tighten a few things up to compete in the final couple tournaments, as the fields are very good."
The men will participate in the RedTail Fall Classic on October 4th at Fox Ridge in Dike.
