RedTails Battle Tough Conditions at Iowa Central Fall Kickoff
The Hawkeye RedTails Men's Golf team opened their fall season at the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff on Monday, September 8, at Fort Dodge Country Club, competing against a strong NJCAA Division II field under windy and challenging conditions.
The RedTails showed grit throughout the round, but a combination of tough breaks and high numbers on critical holes left the team short of their target performance.
"We battled in some tough conditions but made too many big numbers again and didn't finish where we'd like to be," said Head Coach Micah Destival. "Mitchell Randall, after making a big number early, fought hard the entire round which was great to see."
Randall led by example with a determined effort, bouncing back from early struggles to post an 84 (+13). Preston Martens posted the team's lowest round of the day with a 78 (+7), highlighted by a composed back nine that included two birdies and steady play.
Other RedTails scorers included:
-
Graham Bremner – 83 (+12)
-
Aidan Zirtzman – 85 (+14)
-
Carson Nash – 85 (+14)
The RedTails posted a team total of 6577 over the par‑71 layout.
Despite not finishing where they hoped, the RedTails took valuable lessons from the event and will use the experience to prepare for their next competition.
