The Hawkeye Community College RedTails Men's Soccer team battled hard on their home field Saturday afternoon on September 13th, but came up short against St. Charles Community College, falling 6–1.
The RedTails struck first in the opening minute when Joao Pedro Morais found the back of the net to give Hawkeye an early 1–0 lead. The quick strike energized the RedTails, but St. Charles responded with three unanswered goals in the first half to take a 3–1 lead into halftime.
In the second half, St. Charles added three more goals, including a score in the 60th minute that extended their lead to 4–1. Despite the offensive push from the Cougars, RedTails goalkeeper Dylan Lyle made several key stops, finishing the day with 11 saves, including a highlight-worthy stop in the 10th minute of the second half.
Head coach Jorge Sierra Galeas emphasized the need for regrouping after the match: "Performance was not the desired to compete at the highest level. We need to regroup as a team and be ready for region play on Saturday."
The RedTails will look to regroup as they return to action on Saturday, September 20, when they host Western Iowa Tech at 3:30pm at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.
