HAWKEYE MEN’S SOCCER ADDS SPANISH MIDFIELDER RODRIGO GARCÍA REDONDO
Hawkeye Community College is excited to announce the addition of Rodrigo García Redondo, a midfielder from Sevilla, Spain, to the RedTail Men's Soccer program. Rodrigo comes from DXT Formación Deportiva, where he completed the advanced sports program "TSEAS," and plans to study Sports Science or Physical Therapy at HCC.
Rodrigo is a versatile midfielder who plays both as a No. 6 and a No. 10. He began playing soccer at just four years old, starting in his school's pre-benjamín team and later developing through high-level futsal pathways. Before focusing on soccer, he spent time in the youth system of Real Betis Futsal and was selected multiple years for both the Andalusian National Team and the Sevilla Futsal Regional Team. He has also competed professionally for two years in Spain's Second Division B of futsal.
Rodrigo shared his excitement about joining the RedTails:
"I'm very excited to come to Hawkeye Community College because Coach Jorge Sierra was very close and supportive with me from the beginning, and that's very important in a coach. We also had a video call where he explained how the university and the team work, and that really interested me—the expectations during the year, classes, everything.
What excites me most about next year is meeting new international teammates and reaching the goals Jorge sets for us as a team, as well as the goals I set for myself both academically and within the program.
I've been competing in soccer for about two years, but before that, I played futsal where I was selected several times for Andalusia and Sevilla. My biggest goal in soccer is to reach the professional level, whether in the United States or elsewhere—though I would love for it to be in the U.S. But first, my priority is earning my degree, and then I'll see what the future holds."
Rodrigo brings international experience, technical quality, and ambition to the RedTail midfield.
