RedTail Men’s Track and Field Team Sets School Records at the Hawkeye Invitational
IOWA CITY- The RedTail Men's Track & Field team started their season at the Hawkeye Invitational on Saturday, January 15.
Leading the RedTails, sophomore, Ray Talbert ran a school record time of 6.91 in the 60-meter dash. Talbert placed 9th and was just shy of making finals. In addition, freshman Brigham Daniel ran 7.14 for his first appearance in the 60m, which is #10 in school history.
Daniel also ran strong in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.85. His time is #9 in the school's history.
Starting his second year, Blake Veenstra took 9th place overall after making a huge throw. His throw of 15.97m also qualified him to make finals. Veenstra's first throw hit the national qualifying mark, but the 2nd throw was his best.
In the men's 400-meter dash, Jacob Jensen finished with a time of 51.81, placing 18th. For the men's 600-meter dash, Koby Brackemeyer met the qualifications for nationals with a 1:21.63.
Stephen Thomas placed 7th overall with his time of 2:36.14 in the men's 1000-meter run. Thomas' time was just shy of the NJCAA standard.
"I'm happy with where our sprinters are at, overall this was a lot of these young athletes' first experience on a banked track and they took advantage of it! Blake Veenstra is looking great for his second year," said head coach Tyler Mulder.
The RedTails will continue their improvement this season when they head to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the UNI Jack Jennet Open on Friday, January 21.
