RedTails Finish Indoor Season with 2 All-Americans
PITTSBURG, KANSAS-The RedTail Track and Field team finished their indoor season at the 2022 NJCAA Indoor Nationals at Pittsburg State University on March 4-5, walking away with two All-Americans, Blake Veenstra and Koby Brackemeyer.
Blake Veenstra kicked off the meet in the shot put, taking fifth place with a mark of 16.30m and claiming All-American status. He also placed seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 15.90.
The 4x800 placed eighth overall with solid performances across the board as Koby Brackemeyer anchored them to secure All-American status. They ran the second best time in program history, 7:55.08.
The distance medley relay ran a time of 10:23.73, the second best time in program history and placed 13th overall.
The 4x400 placed 10th overall with a new school record of 3:14.98. Blake Osborn, Isaac Vaske, Edgar Tapia and Connor Belken all stepped up during this race and had their own personal best times of the year.
D'Artagnon Beaver ran strong and placed 23rd in the 3K with his second best time of the year, 9:00.13.
Tyler Colvin had a big personal record in the 1K to take 18th place with a time of 2:34.07, while Stephen Thomas also placed 21st with a time of 2:38.86.
Koby Brackemeyer had a strong race where he ran his second 400 faster than his first, which shows his strength as he placed 14th. Connor Belken also placed 19th in the 400.
"Overall we had a huge indoor season, we loved seeing Blake Veenstra do what he does in the throws," said head coach Tyler Mulder. "The 4x8 all stepped it up as they ran the #2 time in school history. It was also nice to see Koby Brackemeyer kick guys down with a 1:54 split. Our 4x4 absolutely stepped it up as Blake Osborn kicked things off to split a low 48, then Both Edgar & Isaac Vaske splitting 49's in the middle was a bit of a breakthrough for them. Connor Belken looked great on the anchor leg to go low 47. They were narrowly outside of the All-American status with that performance but were rewarded with the school record! I love seeing Tyler Colvin constantly improve! Overall we have a lot of positive momentum moving forward into the outdoor season!"
The RedTails are back in action for their outdoor season on Saturday, March 26, at Grandview University for the Viking Relays.
