Ray Talbert and Isaac Vaske Crowned Meet Champs at the Viking Relays
DES MOINES–The RedTail Track and Field team competed in the Viking Relays at Grand View University on March 26, where Ray Talbert and Isaac Vaske were crowned the meet champions.
Talbert was crowned in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.74. Vaske was crowned in the 400 with a time of 51.36.
In the 200, Brigham Daniel led with a fourth place finish of 22.33, which is also a lifetime personal record for him. Ray Talbert took fifth, Keegan Thompson placed ninth and Isaac Vaske took 12th overall.
In the 400, Blake Osborn took third place, Koby Brackemeyer took fourth and Edgar Tapia took sixth.
In the 5k, Tyler Colvin punched his ticket to Nationals with a time of 15:18.89, which also sets him in the #2 place in school history.
D'artagnon Beaver won the men's 10k with a time of 33:43.61, which is the second best time in school history.
Keegan Thompson, Jeron Shaw, Orlando Vivians and Jacob Jensen combined to get second overall with a time of 45.40 in the 4x1.
Connor Belken, Blake Osborn, Edgar Tapia and Isaac Vaske took home the team title in the 4x4 as they went 3:23.77.
Blake Veenstra placed second overall in the shot put which qualified him for Nationals. He also placed second overall in the discus, with another Nationals qualification.
"Overall the Men's team took home 15 overall of top 8 finishes, The men closed the meet out with four total 4x4's which shows some heart for the guys," said head coach Tyler Mulder. "They came here to compete despite the conditions and made the best out of an opportunity. It's great to get a national qualifier from Tyler Colvin in the 5k, along with Blake Veenstra punching his ticket in the throw events."
The RedTails are back in action on Friday, April 1, at the Central Invitational at Central College.
