RedTails Dominate Mustang Open
CEDAR RAPIDS-The RedTails competed at the Mustang Open on Saturday, April 9, 2022, placing first with a score of 157 out of three teams.
The RedTails broke four school records:

In the 200-meter dash, the RedTails' depth really showed as there were five guys who got under the 23 second barrier. Keegan Thompson, Heath Wyant, Renajid Kajtezovic, Shaw and Daniel all set personal best times in the 200.
In the 400, Belken set a meet record and outdoor personal best time of 47.91, while the men went 1,3 and 5 in the event.
In the 800, Chipman had a breakthrough as he broke the 2:00 minute barrier for the first time and won the meet, as he surged home the final 100 meters to take the win.
In the 1500, Colvin and D'Artagnon Beaver broke the school record. Colvin won the meet with a time of 4:02.62, just off the national qualifying mark. Beaver wasn't far behind, with a time of 4:04.57, under the previous mark of 4:06.
In the 400 Hurdles, Vaske punched his ticket to nationals with a time of 55.08 in his debut in that event. He led the charge for the crew as Tapia and Vance also had collegiate personal records.
In the 3000 Steeplechase, Beaver made his debut in the event taking second overall and a college personal record with a time of 10:11.52.
In the Shot Put, Veenstra continues to throw consistently to win the meet, while Miguel Rubio continues to improve and set personal records.
In the Discus, Veenstra threw his meet record mark of 50.63m, while Rubio also set a new personal record of 9.91m.
"We saw a lot of records change and new names to the Hawkeye All time Top 10 list," said Head Coach Tyler Mulder. "We had a lot of breakthrough runs and then they won the meet as a team. I'm very excited for this group to take this momentum into training and the next few weeks of competing."
The RedTails are back in action Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the William Penn Invitational.
