RedTail Men’s Track and Field Compete at Battle at the Hive meet in Davenport
DAVENPORT–RedTail Track and Field placed in the top three for several events at the Battle of the Hive on January 14, the squad's first competition under new head coach Scott Roberts.
A second place finish for Austin Langrek in the 1000 meter with a 2:58.78 is among the top highlights for the men's team. Matthew Benedict also earned a fourth place finish in the high jump with 6-2 ¾, as well as fourth and fifth place in the 60 meter hurdles by Kenny Cutler (9.25) and Zane Vance (9.30), and fifth and sixth place finishes in the 400 meter dash by Kaden Miller (52.82) and Sean Knockel (53.11).
In addition to exciting finishes during the meet, RedTail fans also watched with anticipation on head coach Scott Roberts and his first meet as a RedTail. We watched as the new coach handled the team with focus and enthusiasm. "We have a large group of freshmen this year and this was the first college meet of their careers." Roberts said. With a lot of young student-athletes, their experience with indoor tracks is limited, and is always an adjustment. However, he was proud of their accomplishments, and is looking forward to the rest of the season "They will get better each week." the coach remarked.
