Redtail Blake Osborn Dominates 400 Meter dash among Division I Competition at Cyclone Open
AMES– Select Student-athletes from the RedTail Men's Track and Field Team traveled to Ames to compete in the Cyclone Open on January 21. The team had great success against stiff competition, including division one programs like Iowa State, Drake, Minnesota, and Omaha.
Achievements from this meet include Blake Osborn winning the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.21 seconds, as well as placing eighth in the 200 meter dash with a 22.17. "He dominated a field that included Division I runners." RedTail head coach Scott Roberts commented.
The RedTails also scored second and third in the 600, run by Chase Mullenex with a 1:14.49 seconds, and Sean Knockel, who ran a 1:16.64. Our RedTails also scored fifth place in the 4x400 meter relay, with a team of Brigham Daniel, Carson Hellinga, Chase Mullenix, Blake Osborn.
The RedTails also scored well in field events, with scores of second place in the high jump from Matthew Benedict, jumping 6 feet, 2 ¼ inches, as well as fifth place in the long jump from Gannon O'Hara, who jumped 21–10 ¾.
With a young group of many freshmen, the RedTails are off to a great start for the season. Scott Roberts, the new head coach for both the men's and women's teams. "We have a large group of freshmen that are adapting to collegiate competition, quickly." Roberts said.
"The men's team took significant steps in the right direction this weekend; posting countless personal and season bests. This group of men are developing well under solid leadership among the event groups and an impressive desire for more." Assistant coach Hunter Lavallee commented.
The RedTails will be competing next at the Fighting Bee tournament at St. Ambrose in Davenport from January 27-28.
