Male Athlete of the Week- Travis Brace
RedTail Track & Field student-athlete Travis Brace has been named Scheels Male Athlete of the Week for his performances at Augustana's Meet of Champions on April 22.
Brace took huge strides this past weekend at Augustana's Meet of Champions and he debuted his first ever Decathlon for the RedTails. Brace set new personal bests in eight of the ten events. Starting with a 12.03 sec 100m, 6.03m long jump, and throwing 8.24m in shotput to close out Day One of the Decathlon. He then goes five-for-five on personal bests starting with a 17.48 in the 110m Hurdles, 25.22m long toss in the discus, a massive heave of 25.44m in the javelin, and closes out the decathlon with a 5:39 1500m. Brace's biggest PB he accomplished was hitting 3.0m in the Pole Vault section of the combined event. This makes Travis Hawkeye's new School Record holder of the outdoor pole vault.
"Travis has been a fun one to work with!," said coach Hunter Lavallee. "He is extremely coachable and hungry to grow. It was awesome to see that guy throwing down through the weekend with his partner Aaron Campbell (the new School Record holder in the Decathlon). The pair feed off of one another's energy and symbolize the old saying, 'Iron sharpens Iron'. Travis has plenty of room to grow, so we'll get to see some big things from this guy as the year closes out and through-out next season!"
Brace is originally from Cresco, IA.
