Male Athlete of the Week – Ryan Leonard
Ryan Leonard has been named Scheels Male Athlete of the Week after a historic performance at the Mustang Distance Carnival and Open. Leonard set a new Hawkeye Community College school record in the men's pole vault, clearing 3.65 meters to finish 4th overall in a strong field.
He shattered the previous school record of 3.20 meters, an impressive feat considering he just started vaulting in January.
In addition to his record-breaking performance, Leonard contributed to team success by helping the RedTails to two more 4th place finishes in both the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay.
"Ryan is a jack of all trades," said head coach Scott Roberts. "He's only been pole vaulting a few months and already owns the school record. He's a valuable relay contributor and, of course, a key piece in the decathlon."
Leonard's versatility, work ethic, and rapid improvement continue to make a major impact for the RedTail track and field squad.
