Mickelson Breaks School Record at Luther Invitational
DECORAH–Sam Mickelson led the RedTails across the finish line again on Saturday, September 14, at the Luther All-American Invitational, taking a school record with him.
Mickelson led the RedTails to a seventh-place finish, his RedTail record-breaking performance leaving him just shy of the top 10. (11th, 21:30.3). Jonny Smith (21:45.0), not to be outdone, edged out a top-20 finish with a very solid race.
Payton Bahl (22:18.4) was the next RedTail across the finish line taking 41st. Not far behind him was Brandon Conrad how finished with a time of 22:55.0. Ryan Moore rounded out the top five when he crossed the line finishing with a time of 23:54.6.
"Everyone had really strong kicks which was fun to see and I'm sure a confidence booster for some of the 800 runners like Ryan Moore, Payton Bahl & Brandon Conrad," said head coach Tyler Mulder. "We're looking good taking a two week break from racing to focus on training and we'll be competing next at wartburg which will be the men's team first time tuning 8K all year."
