Men’s Cross Country Team Breaks Records At Indian Hills

OTTUMWA–The RedTail Cross Country Team took advantage of the nice weather this past Friday, setting new season,school and personal records at the Region XI Championship.

A new school record was set by Sam Mickelson in the 8K, who ran an impressive 25:47, breaking the previous record held by Peter Torkelson (26:31). Mickelson placed 14th at the event, followed by Johnny Smith (26:04) and Brandon Conrad (26:27) who both set personal records.

Coach Tyler Mulder was excited and hopeful after the event, stating, "The men's team really capitalized with the nicer weather, and I was happy to see several of them come through their 5K in the 16-minute range." 

The RedTails look to compete next in the 2019 NJCAA National Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 9. 

"As a team we'd like to finish higher than our ranking shows," coach Mulder said after the event. "In order to do that we need to work on tightening our spread closer to the one minute range which these guys are more than capable of."
