RedTail Sports Shooting Starts Strong in Season Opener
WAUKEE–The RedTail Sport Shooting team had an impressive third-place finish at the New Pioneer Gun Club Event that was held March 13-14.
Saturday's beautiful weather aided the RedTails, as they found themselves in second place at day's end. Sunday's weather was much more windy, but the RedTails persevered to finish third as a team out of 11, hitting 1,352 targets overall.
Sophomore Jake Maakestad and freshman Jeb Collins both put their talents on display throughout the weekend. Maakestad finished fourteenth individually in skeet, and Collins placed fifth individually in sporting clays.
Alexis Teribury, a freshman from Barton, New York, was able to show her versatility, contributing to the team in skeet, sporting clays, and super shooting.
"We are proud of how our athletes competed in such weather conditions," said coach Troy Emley. "We are glad to have this competition under our belt before the SCTP College National Championships."
The Sport Shooting teams will look to build off of their opening event success when they travel to the SCTP College National Championships in Marengo, Ohio, on March 18.
