Day two in Florida for the RedTail Softball Team brought #21 ranked Lake Sumter State College. The RedTails lost both, losing game one 4-1 and losing game two 10-2.
Game One: 4 (LSSC), 1 (HCC)
The Lakehawks took an early lead in the bottom of the second, scoring one run off a solo homerun.
The RedTails bounced back right away and answered in the top of the third. Lucy Lebo forced an error and scored when Mackenzie Bridgewater forced an error as well.
The game was 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth, when a walk, single, and passed ball scored two runs. The fourth run of the game was scored on a sacrifice fly.
Hawkeye was unable to put any more runs across the board, giving them a 4-1 loss.
Game Two: 10 (LSSC), 2 (HCC)
The RedTails attacked first, scoring in the first inning when Bridgewater singled and Isabelle Kriegel hit a double to score her.
The Lakehawks went up 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on a walk and homerun.
Hawkeye fought back and tied up the game in the top of the second. Jordan Trueblood hit a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Olivia Techam. Emilee Bergmann then hit a double to score Trueblood.
Lake Sumter got one run back in the bottom of the second, scoring from a walk, two singles, and one sacrifice fly.
A RedTail error gave the Lakehawks a 5-2 lead in the third.
In the bottom of the fifth, the RedTails gave up three more runs from five hits and one walk.
The RedTails continued to put runners on base and threaten to score, but could not capitalize. IN the sixth inning, Kriegel hit a single and moved to second on a Trueblood single. Techam walked to load the bases, but Hawkeye could not cross a run.
In the bottom of the sixth, two singles and a double scored the final run needed to complete the run rule.
The RedTails move to 5-9 on the year. They have four more games in Florida, two games on Friday, March 13th and Saturday, March 14th.
