Mya Chamberlin Signs to Continue Athletic and Academic Career at Kansas Wesleyan University
RedTail Softball player Mya Chamberlin has recently signed to continue her athletic and academic career at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. Chamberlin will be studying criminal justice during her time. Chamberlin is the daughter of Sarah and Josh Chamberlin and graduated from Marion High School.
“I chose KWU because it was the best fit for me academically and athletically with what I want my next two years to look like,” commented Chamberlin. “I am excited to meet new people while being further from home and living somewhere new.”
During her time at Hawkeye, Chamberlin found a lot of success both on and off the field.
Offensively, Chamberlin collected 90 career hits, including 26 doubles (program best), one triple, and eight home runs. She scored 49 times and hit in 44 of her teammates. She holds a career batting average of .357 (program best) and an on base percentage of .406 (program best).
She had her best year on the mound her sophomore season, earning 13 wins (single-season best) and holding a 2.86 ERA (single-season best). During her two years, she has 20 wins on the mound, pitched 325.1 innings, and has struck out 282 batters (all program career records).
For all of her success, Chamberlin earned All-Region Honorable Mention her freshman season and All-Region Second Team her sophomore season. She also has been on the ICCAC All-Academic team all four semesters.
“Mya was a workhorse for us these last two years,” said head coach Courtney Calkins. “She was a leader both in the circle and at the plate for us. She has grown so much as a person and athlete during her time here, and I am very proud of her and what she has accomplished so far. Her absence will be felt next year, but I know she is going to do great things at KWU. I can’t wait to watch her next chapter and see her succeed at the next level.”
“I loved my time at Hawkeye. I loved that I got to make great friends from different cities and states. I’ve made so many great memories that will be with me forever,” commented Chamberlin.
