Lucy Lebo Signs to Continue Athletic Career at Mount Marty
RedTail Softball player Lucy Lebo has recently signed to continue her athletic and academic career at Mount Marty University in Yankton, South Dakota. She will be studying radiology technology during her time. Lebo is the daughter of Ann and Andy Lebo and graduated from Grundy Center High School.
“I chose Mount Marty because of their radiology program, excellent facilities, supportive coaches, and the small town family atmosphere,” said Lucy Lebo. “I’m excited to continue playing softball while pursuing my education in a community that feels like home.”
During her time at Hawkeye, Lebo was a solid middle infielder for the RedTails, playing mostly second base, but also spending some time at shortstop. Unfortunately, her sophomore season was cut short due to an injury. Regardless, she still holds an impressive resume over her two year stint. She maintained a career average of .262 and an on base percentage of .350. She collected 58 total hits, including 14 doubles, one triple, and three homeruns. She had 22 runs batted in, 27 walks, and 49 runs scored (tied for most in a career). She is also tied for second most stolen bases in a single-season (18). She held down a .928 fielding percentage and turned 11 double plays.
Outside of softball, Lebo was the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and she was named to the ICCAC Academic All-Region First Team all four semesters
“I am very excited to watch Lucy continue to play at the next level,” commented head coach Courtney Calkins. “She is one of the most athletic players I have gotten to coach. She has the speed, glove work, and athleticism that will benefit any program. She did a great job playing the middle for us, and we were so sad that her sophomore season got cut short, but I know she will bounce back even stronger. I am very proud of her and all the work she has put in, and I can’t wait to see all she accomplishes at Mount Marty!”
“My time at Hawkeye was something special. I got to play the sport I love, build lifelong memories, and grow both on and off the field. Hawkeye will always be a chapter of my life I’ll be proud of,” said Lebo.
