RedTail Softball Gains Aspen Weir
RedTail Softball head coach Courtney Calkins announces the signing of Aspen Weir to the 2026 recruiting class. Aspen is the daughter of Susan and Raymond Weir and attends Oelwein High School. Weir plans on pursuing an associate of arts with an elementary education emphasis during her time at Hawkeye.
During her time as a Husky, Weir has put together a well-rounded stat line for her four years on varsity. She has put together a .358 batting average with a .395 on base percentage. She has collected 121 hits, including 28 doubles, six triples, and one homerun. She has hit in 80 of her teammates and has scored 32 times herself. On the mound, she has put together 36 wins. In her junior season, she had a 3.28 earned run average in 151.1 innings of work. She added 197 strikeouts and just 42 walks during her junior campaign.
For her efforts, Weir has earned many accolades. She was named Second Team All-Conference four years in a row. She has also earned varsity letters for volleyball, track, and softball. She has earned National Honor Society Cord, and she is a part of DECA, National Honors Society, Silver Cord Volunteer Hours, and Concert Choir.
Weir had this to say about choosing Hawkeye, “I chose Hawkeye because the coaching staff seems very welcoming and truly cares about their players' success on and off the field. I’m excited to come to Hawkeye and play with other girls who love the sport just as much as I do. I can’t wait to keep improving my game, compete at the next level, and represent Hawkeye Softball!”
“Aspen is the type of kid that represents a program well,” commented Coach Calkins. “She is a well-rounded athlete and is a genuine and caring person outside of softball. On the mound, she is going to provide some great spins and effective locations to keep batters on their toes. She is also able to provide on the offensive side. She has a solid swing and sees the ball very well in the box. I can’t wait to see her continue to grow as a person and athlete at Hawkeye!”
