Women’s Bowling Places 6th in First Tournament of the Season
ROCKFORD, ILL- The RedTails women's bowling team competed in their first tournament of the season on September 25-26 in the Golden Eagle Invite where the varsity team placed sixth.
The women's JV team had a promising day with three players placing in the top 30. Lanie Konzen finished 17th with an average of 157, she finished strong with her highest game scoring 202. Kristen Mitchell finished 28th and Madison Shontz finished 30th. The women continued to play strong on day two and qualified as the number one seed in the finals, where they fell to Judson University.
"The girls' JV also had a full team of new faces who were experiencing the atmosphere of a college bowling tournament for the first time," says assistant coach Roger Taylor. "The nerves were there and everyone definitely was experiencing conditions they were not used to but these girls had a lot of fun together and pulled through."
The Varsity team played a strong game with freshman Stephanie Burge leading the team with a 179 average and scoring eight individually. Whitney Morse finished 11th with an average of 171. Captain Hannah Axile finished outside the top 30, but stepped up in her leadership role to inspire and energize the team through their slumps.
"There were some ups and downs but for this being our first tournament of the season," says Taylor "I feel we made a great effort and now with this experience under our belts, we can move forward and work on things that we struggled on to be better prepared for our next outing which would be our home tournament at Cadillac Lanes."
The RedTails will be home for the Cedar Valley Invite on October 9-10.
