On Saturday, August 23rd, the RedTail Women's Soccer team hosted Madison College in their first official match of the season. Entering the game with high expectations, head coach Chris Rennie shared, "We have a new look team this year with a lot of freshmen and these types of games are a great opportunity for them to play in competitive college soccer matches and quickly learn what is required of them at this level."
The RedTails came out strong, setting the tone early with high intensity and energy in the opening 25 minutes. Their aggressive press and quick ball recovery led to a few quality chances in front of goal, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
Despite dominating much of the first half, the RedTails conceded a goal off a set piece—Madison College's first real opportunity in the RedTails' half. The team responded well, quickly equalizing with a well-placed free kick. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
"I'm really pleased with the overall performance," Rennie said. "Especially in the areas we challenged the players with." He emphasized the need for sharper execution in the final third to turn strong performances into wins.
The RedTails now head out on the road for a two-game stretch, taking on Jefferson College on Friday, August 29, followed by a match against East Central College on Saturday, as they spend the weekend competing in St. Louis.
