RedTails Battle Hard in Regional Semifinal Loss to Iowa Lakes
This week, the RedTails traveled to face Iowa Lakes Community College for a regional semifinal game. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 28th, but because of weather related conflicts, they were able to move the game back to Wednesday, the 29th.
The team played exceptionally well, almost feeling like they deserved to win the match. Unfortunately, they fell short, ending their season on Wednesday. They went down 0-1 in the first half, and spent the rest of the game fighting to get back into the game. Eventually going four up top, they conceded again in the second half with little time left in the game.
Head Coach Chris Rennie reflects on the game, "I couldn't be more proud of the team. We left here last time feeling like we didn't give the best account of ourselves. Today, we were much improved; defensively, we were organized and disciplined. We knew coming here that we would need to be at our best. For long periods of time we looked so comfortable out of possession and dangerous on the attack but just never quite got the quality in the final third. We were missing the final ball–the piece to unlock Lakes. As we got to 15 minutes left in the game and being down 1-0, we really went for it and looked like we finally might make the breakthrough but the more we pushed, the more the game became stretched. I could not be more proud of what the team put into the game. There was so much passion and resilience out there and I think we leave here disappointed again but this time because we felt we deserved something from the game."
At Hawkeye, we are extremely proud of the women's team for all of their hard work this season. Ending their season 11-2-2, they have a lot to hold their heads high about.
