RedTail Volleyball Team Completes 2025 Spring Scrimmage Season
Since March 27, the RedTail volleyball team has had the opportunity to participate in four scrimmages. The purpose of each scrimmage was to allow the team to engage in gamelike play that they would not otherwise have in a normal practice setting. The scrimmages were kept casual and unofficial to allow the teams to work on things throughout each set and to gain touches in the offseason.
The first of the scrimmages was hosted by DMACC where the team played Iowa Central Community College and DMACC. "It was our first opportunity to play this spring," said Head Coach Christy Mahi. "Like most programs, we don't have enough to play 6 v 6 in practice, so spring scrimmages are great practice for us and we are very thankful to have another team across the net."
On April 2, the team traveled to Iowa Central for the second scrimmage where they had the chance to compete against both Ellsworth and NIACC.
Wednesday, April 9, the RedTails had the opportunity to host at the HESC. They played against Iowa Central, DMACC, and NIACC. "We were very pleased with the day and thrilled to see all that we have been working on in practice transfer into play. We were very aggressive whether we were in system or out-of-system, hit the corners and attacked at a high contact point, all things we've been focused on in practice. I also felt we played with a lot of confidence, which was really great to see. It was a very good day for us," said Coach Mahi.
To wrap up the spring season, the team made the short drive to Cedar Falls on Friday, April 11, to compete against UNI, Upper Iowa, and Wartburg. Coach Mahi said, "We were thankful to be invited to scrimmage UNI, Wartburg and Upper Iowa. It was a great opportunity for us to compete against such strong programs in each of the divisions. We are really fortunate to be surrounded by great volleyball in our area and feel that each program represented that on Friday."
To conclude the season, Coach Mahi had this to say: "Overall, we are very pleased with the growth of each athlete through the weeks of training and competition. We trained hard in the weight room and on the court and saw the benefits of our hard work as we competed in each scrimmage. We laid a great foundation and look forward to the addition of our incoming freshman to add to the strength of our to-be-sophomores. We will continue to train for the last couple of weeks in April with some beach volleyball. We are excited to expose our athletes to that game as it provides some great cross-training and it's a lot of fun."
