RedTails Volleyball rallies past NIACC in four sets
The Hawkeye RedTails volleyball team bounced back from a first-set loss to defeat NIACC, 3–1,
on Wednesday night at home.
After dropping the opening frame, Hawkeye responded with a dominant second set. Alexis Even
sparked the run with a string of kills, while Shannon Moorman's key points out of the timeout
pushed the RedTails to a 25–15 win.
The momentum carried into the third, as Jenna Scharper and Emersyn Secora helped the
RedTails jump out to an early lead. Moorman added an ace, and Hawkeye held steady to close
the set 25–19.
In the fourth, Secora and Kinzie Gardner delivered timely kills and blocks as Hawkeye pulled
away late, finishing the match 25–18.
"I was very pleased with the outcome tonight. It was great to get our first conference win at
home! I think we had a few 'first home match' jitters we need to work out early in set one.
NIACC came out aggressive and low error from the start. It took us a bit to relax a little and
execute our game plan. Each set really was a battle and we are thankful to come away with a win
against a very solid NIACC team," said Head Coach Chris Mahi.
With the victory, the RedTails improve their early-season record and build confidence heading
into their next matchups this Friday and Saturday in Illinois.
