RedTails Split Saturday Matches at DMACC Triangular
The Hawkeye Community College RedTails Women's Volleyball team came away with a split on Saturday, September 27, competing in a tough DMACC Triangular. The RedTails opened the day with a hard-fought four-set loss to Neosho County Community College, but rebounded with a strong showing in the second match, defeating East Central College in four sets.
In the first match of the day, Hawkeye jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Neosho County with a 25-23 win in the opening set. However, Neosho responded with three straight set wins (25-14, 25-10, 25-22) to take the match 3-1. Despite the loss, the RedTails saw strong performances from several key contributors. Shannon Moorman led the attack with 12 kills (.333 hitting percentage) and added four block assists. Emersyn Secora chipped in 10 kills and 16 digs, while Jenna Scharper and Ruby Patterson added 8 kills each. Setter Kinzie Gardner dished out 37 assists and recorded 11 digs. Hawkeye totaled 45 kills on 156 attempts, hitting .128 as a team.
The RedTails quickly turned the page in their second match of the day, putting together one of their most complete performances of the season in a 3-1 win over East Central College (25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23). Shannon Moorman once again led the offensive charge with 16 kills while hitting a blistering .500. She was joined by Alexis Even, who notched 15 kills and added a solo block and a block assist for 16.5 total points. Gardner directed a smooth offense with 47 assists, while Alexie Hogan anchored the defense with a match-high 23 digs. The team hit .209 overall and recorded 8 service aces, including three apiece from Hogan and Patterson.
The RedTails will return to conference play next week as they continue to battle for postseason positioning.
