RedTails Volleyball Secures Four-Set Win Over Western Iowa Tech
Hawkeye Community College continued its strong volleyball campaign with a 3-1 victory over Western Iowa Tech Community College on Thursday evening at the Health Education and Services Center. The RedTails showed poise and balance throughout the match, improving their form after a second-set setback to close out the match in four sets (25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20).
Hawkeye opened the match with a competitive first set, edging the Comets 25-22 behind timely attacks and consistent defensive pressure. After Western Iowa Tech responded by taking the second set, the RedTails refocused and elevated their offensive efficiency, hitting .226 in the third set and .222 in the fourth to clinch the match.
Freshman outside hitter Jenna Scharper led the way for the RedTails with a dominant all-around performance, recording 16 kills on a .238 hitting percentage, five service aces, and 21 digs, totaling a match-high 21.5 points. She was joined by Emersyn Secora, who notched 15 kills and contributed defensively with 15 digs.
Setter Alexie Hogan facilitated the offense with 28 digs and an ace, while middle blocker Liv Dralle was effective at the net, registering five kills on just eight swings (.375) and adding three total blocks. Defensively, Shannon Moorman and Alexis Even added to the block party, combining for 12 block assists.
As a team, Hawkeye compiled 48 kills with a .144 attack percentage and out-blocked the Comets 18-7. The RedTails' aggressive serving game also proved crucial, with 10 service aces helping to keep Western Iowa Tech off balance.
With this win, Hawkeye Community College continues to build momentum in conference play and demonstrates depth across its roster as the season progresses.
