RedTails Sweep Southwestern in Dominant Home Win
The Hawkeye Community College RedTails volleyball team delivered a commanding performance on their home court Wednesday night, sweeping Southwestern Community College in straight sets (25–18, 25–15, 25–11). The victory capped off a strong showing for Hawkeye, who controlled the match from start to finish with efficient offense and aggressive serving.
Hawkeye hit an impressive .321 as a team, led by Alexis Even and Shannon Moorman, who combined for 20 kills on the night. Even paced the RedTails with 12 kills and a .346 hitting percentage, while Moorman added 8 kills on a stellar .727 clip and tallied three service aces and three block assists for a total of 12.5 points.
Jenna Scharper continued her consistent play at the net, recording 8 kills and hitting .636, while Ruby Patterson added 4 kills and a team-high 5 aces, fueling several key runs in the second set.
Setter Kinzie Gardner directed the offense efficiently, dishing out 34 assists and adding an ace of her own. Defensively, Emersyn Secora anchored the back row with 15 digs, while Alexie Hogan chipped in 8 digs and steady serve receive.
The RedTails' balanced attack and relentless defense kept Southwestern off rhythm throughout the match. After taking the first set 25–18, Hawkeye tightened its defense and surged ahead early in the second, cruising to a 25–15 win before closing the sweep with a dominant 25–11 final set.
With the victory, Hawkeye Community College improves its record and continues to build momentum heading into postseason play.
