Four RedTail Wrestlers Earn All-American Honors at National Tournament
The Hawkeye RedTails Women's Wrestling team had an impressive showing at the national tournament on March 6-7 in Council Bluffs, IA, with four athletes earning All-American honors and three more finishing just one match away from the podium.
Leading the way was Alyson Krum, who secured a fifth-place finish, to earn her All-American recognition. Mia Kurth and Mackenzie Arends each earned sixth place, demonstrating consistency throughout the tournament. Lemuna Gurisho also had a strong performance, finishing seventh.
Several other RedTails came extremely close to joining them on the podium. Cieanna Ficken (131 lbs), Makenna Fetters (207 lbs), and Reese Winslow (235 lbs) each fought hard and finished one match short of All-American status, showcasing the team's determination, and competitiveness throughout the tournament.
The RedTails' performances highlight the continued growth and success of Hawkeye's women's wrestling program, with multiple athletes competing at a national level and representing the program with determination and pride.
"Overall we had a very successful Friday showing, and that's the one that creates All-Americans," said head coach Dan Lovell. "The next day we were a little flat and fell short of putting anyone into the finals. The girls wrestled their hearts out the season and it paid off at the end. Doubling last year's All-American count."
