RedTails Drop Both to Hawks
The Lady RedTail Softball Team took on Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. The RedTails dropped both, losing game one 3-2 and losing game two 10-2.
Game One: 3 (NCC), 2 (HCC)
The game was quiet until the fourth inning when the RedTails struck first. A Ceyaira Barron single and a Delaney Eickert single put runners on the corners. Harley Gaudet drew a walk to load the bases. A passed ball allowed Barron to cross home plate. Dharma Woodruff was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, but the threat was ended there, giving the RedTails a 1-0 lead.
Hawkeye got their second run of the game in the fifth inning when Mya Chamberlin got on by a Hawk error and moved to third on a forced error by Courtney Hemsley. Barron then grounded out to score Chamberlin.
The Hawks found a way to score two runs to tie up the game in the sixth inning. Emilee Bergmann stepped up to rob a home run, but Northeast was able to tag up and score, putting them up 3-2.
The RedTails threatened in the top of the seventh when Jordan Eads drew a walk and moved to second on a Chamberlin sacrifice bunt. Lizzy Hamand drew a walk to put runners on first and second, but the RedTails were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
At the plate, Barron led the way with one hit, one run scored, and one run batted in. Sienknecht took the loss on the mound, going two innings, giving up four hits, three runs, three earned. Chamberlin pitched four innings, giving up four hits, no runs, one walk, and two strikeouts.
Game Two: 10 (NCC), 2 (HCC)
The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs. They added one more run in the bottom of the third.
Hawkeye got on the board in the fifth inning. Delaney Eickert drew a walk, advanced to third on a Dharma Woodruff double, and both scored on a Emilee Bergmann single, making the score 6-2 in favor of the Hawks.
The Hawks put up three more runs in the fifth inning. They added one more run to complete the run rule in the sixth inning.
The RedTails were held to just two hits in game two, with Woodruff going 1-2 with a double and run scored. Bergmann had one hit and two runs batted in. Eads pitched four innings, giving up seven hits, six runs, three earned, and one strikeout. Sienknecht threw 1.2 innings, giving up four hits, four runs, just one earned, and one walk.
The RedTails are on the road Tuesday, April 22nd at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
