RedTails Split Final Conference Games
The RedTail Softball Team travelled to Iowa Falls to take on conference opponent Ellsworth. The RedTails won game one 11-0 and lost game two 4-2.
Game One: 11 (HCC), 0 (ECC)
The RedTails struck early in game one. Lucy Lebo started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Mya Chamberlin then drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Jordan Eads laid down a sacrifice bunt to force a Panther error, allowing Lebo to score. Courtney Hemsley continued the base runners by drawing a walk herself, and Harley Gaudet singled to score Chamberlin and advance Eads and Hemsley. Rylie Devlin then drew a walk to score Chamberlin. Emilee Bergmann wanted in on the action and singled to score Hemsley and Gaudet to give the RedTails a 5-0 early lead.
It wasn't until the fourth inning when Hawkeye got one more run on the board. Lebo singled, advanced to second and then third on passed balls, and then scored when Chamberlin singled.
The scoring wasn't over for the RedTails. In the top of the seventh, Chamberlin got hit by a pitch and advanced to second when Eads walked. Hemsley then singled to load the bases, and Gaudet had a base hit to score Chamberlin. Delaney Eickert then hit a bases clearing double to put the score at 10-0. Eickert moved to third on a ground ball and then scored off a ball in play by Dharma Woodruff, giving the RedTails a comfortable 11-0 lead.
Hawkeye was able to shut down the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh.
At the plate, Gaudet led the way, going 2-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Chamberlin was 1-2 with two runs scored, one run batted in, and one walk. On the mound, Chamberlin snagged the win, going all seven innings, giving up just two hits, no runs, one walk, and five strikeouts.
Game Two: 4 (ECC), 2 (HCC)
The Panthers started out on top in game two, scoring two quick runs. They scored two more runs in the bottom of the second to go up 4-0. The Panthers were held scoreless after.
In the third inning, Hawkeye found some groove. Bergmann and Lebo singled. Both scored on a Lizzy Hamand double. Eads drew a walk to continue the inning, but the RedTails were held after.
In the seventh inning, the RedTails threatened when Chamberlin hit a single and Hamand walked, but were unable to capitalize, ending the game 4-2.
At the plate, Hamand led the way going 1-3 with two runs batted in and one walk. On the mound, Eads took the loss, giving up seven hits, four runs, two earned, and three strikeouts. Adelyn Sienknecht threw the other three innings, giving up just one hit and two walks.
The RedTails open up conference tournament next Friday, May 1st. The RedTails will face #1 seed Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
