RedTail Softball Come Up Short Against DMACC
The RedTail Softball Team opened up conference tournament play against #1 seeded Des Moines Area Community College. The RedTails dropped a close game, losing 8-4.
The RedTails started out on top. In the first inning, Lucy Lebo walked and stole second base. She advanced to third on a passed ball. Lizzy Hamand then walked to put runners on the corners. Jordan Eads laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Lebo. Courtney Hemsley got a hit to keep the rally going, but the RedTails were shut down after.
In the second inning, Hawkeye scored another run. Dharma Woodruff was hit by a pitch and advanced to second when Lebo hit a single. Mya Chamberlin then hit a single to score Woodruff, putting the RedTails up 2-0.
DMACC scored their first run in the third inning.
Hawkeye started a two out rally in the sixth inning when Hailey Harbour and scored on a Woodruff double, giving the RedTails a 3-1 advantage.
A big sixth inning for the Bears saw seven runs cross home plate, putting the score at 8-3 in favor of DMACC.
With their last chances, Hamand started a two out rally with a double. Harley Gaudet pinch ran and scored when Eads forced a Bear error. Unfortunately, the RedTails were unable to put any more runs across home plate, ending the game at 8-4.
At the plate, Lebo led the way going 2-3 with one run scored and one walk. Woodruff was 1-2 with one run scored and one run batted in.
The RedTails are back on Saturday, May 3rd in Boone, Iowa. They will face #5 seeded Iowa Lakes Community College at 12:00 PM. With a win, the RedTails will play again at 4:00 PM.
