RedTails Lose Two
The RedTail Softball Team travelled to Trenton, Missouri on Friday, February 27th to compete against NJCAA D1 opponent, North Central Missouri College for a double header. The RedTails lost both, losing game one 11-2 and losing game 2 10-9.
NCMC (11), HCC (2): 5 innings
The RedTails started the game out on top, scoring on a homerun from Ellie Lorenz in the top of the second inning, giving them a one run lead.
In the bottom of the second, the Pirates took over and scored four runs. They did so on four singles, three errors, and one walk.
NCMC had another big third inning, adding five more runs to their score, giving them a 9-1 lead over the RedTails. They scored on two singles, two walks, an error, and two fielder's choice plays.
Two more runs for the Pirates put the game at 11-1.
The RedTails saw some fight in the top of the fifth, hoping to score some runs to keep the game alive. Delaney Eickert drew a walk and Isabelle Kriegel singled to put runners on first and second. A single from Lorenz scored Mackenzie Bridgewater, but was thrown out advancing to second, ending the threat, leaving the RedTails behind 11-2 after five innings.
At the plate, Lorenze led the way, going 2-3 with one run scored, two RBIs, and one homerun. Kriegel was 2-3. On the mound, Chamberlin took the loss, going two innings, giving up four hits, eight runs, five earned, four walks, and two strikeouts. Kyra Ballard threw two innings, giving up two hits, three runs, two earned, and two walks.
NCMC (10), HCC (9)
The RedTails struck first again in game two. Alyvia Anderson started with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. She then scored from a ball in play from Kriegel, giving the RedTails a 1-0 lead.
A big inning from the Pirates in the bottom of the first gave them back the lead. They scored five runs on two walks, one hit by pitch, two errors, and two hits.
Not out of the game yet, Hawkeye found a way to continue to crawl back into the game. In the third inning, Lorenz started with a single and scored on a Jordan Trueblood double. Trueblood then scored on a wild pitch, adding two more runs to the RedTail score.
In the top of the fifth, the RedTails found a way to score one more run to put them within one. Lucy Lebo doubled and scored on a Trueblood double, her second of the game.
NCMC responded and scored one to make the score 6-4 in favor of the Pirates.
In the top of the sixth, Keira Rathjen hit a double, advanced to third on a Bridgewater single, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Anderson. Kriegel then singled to score Bridgewater, tying up the game. The RedTails took back the lead when Lorenz and Lebo hit back-to-back singles to score one. Trueblood stayed consistent and hit another single to load the bases. Hailey Harbour hit a sacrifice fly to give the RedTails a two-run lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Pirates were too much for the RedTails, scoring four runs to go up two.
In the top of the seventh and last chance for Hawkeye, they saw some fight to win the game. A Bridgewater single and Anderson single scored one to make it a one run game. Kriegel then hits another single to put runners on first and second. A fly out and base running mistake end the threat, leaving the RedTails behind 10-9.
At the plate, Anderson and Trueblood led the way, both going 3-4 with one run scored and two runs batted in. Bridgewater, Lorenz, Rathjen, and Lebo each had a multi-hit game. On the mound, Lily McCarty took the loss, going 5.1 innings, giving up eight hits, ten runs, eight earned, eight walks, and two strikeouts. Eads finished the 0.2 innings, giving up one hit.
The RedTails complete their weekend trip on February 28th at Highland Community College, Kansas.
