RedTails Sweep on the Road
The RedTail Softball Team travelled to Moberly, Missouri to take on Moberly Area Community College in a double header. The RedTails won both games, winning game one 16-1 and winning game two 18-9.
Game One: 16 (HCC), 1 (MACC)
The RedTails started out on top and stayed there the entire game. Isabelle Kriegel forced a Moberly error and ended up at third. She scooted home when Ellie Lorenz hit a single.
In inning two, Jordan Trueblood hit a single and moved to second when Rylie Devlin hit a single. A Keira Rathjen single scored Trueblood, giving the RedTails a 2-0 lead.
A three up three down inning on the defensive side brought up the bats again for Hawkeye. Mackenzie Bridgewater singled and stole second. She quickly scored from a Kriegel double. Kriegel scored from a Lorenz single. A Devlin double scored one more RedTail, giving them a 5-0 lead after three.
Another three up three down inning gave the bat to Lucy Lebo, who doubled. Bridgewater and Kriegel walked to load the bases. Lorenz walked to score one. Mya Chamberlin hit a single to score another. A hit by pitch from Trueblood scored the third run of the inning, making it 8-0.
The Greyhounds scored their sole run in the fourth inning, doing this on a double and RedTail error.
Top of the fifth inning saw more runs for the RedTails. Rathjen was hit by a pitch and moved to second when Lebo walked. A Delaney Eickert walk loaded the bases, and a Kriegel single Lorenz walked and Adelyn Sienknecht hit a sacrifice fly to score one. Addyson McKillip, Hailey Harbour, and Maranda Pollock all drew walks. A wild pitch scored another RedTail, and then a Lillian McCarty walk scored one more. Bridgewater kept the inning alive with a single, scoring the eighth run of the inning.
The RedTails held the Greyhounds scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, which completed the run rule and ended the game early in favor of Hawkeye.
Bridgewater led the way at the plate, going 2-3 with three runs scored, one run batted in, one walk, and two stolen bases. Kriegel, Lorenz, and Devlin each had a multi-hit game. Chamberlin took the win on the mound, going four innings, giving up one hit, just one unearned run, and six strikeouts. Kyra Ballard finished the game going one inning, giving up two hits, no runs, and no walks.
Game Two: 18 (HCC), 9 (MACC)
The RedTails continued their hot batting by starting off the game with a Lebo walk, Bridgewater single, and Kriegel double to score two. Eickert drew a walk, and Chamberlin hit a single to score Kriegel. Trueblood walked and Olivia Techam walked to score the fourth run of the inning. Jordan Eads hit a ground ball to score one more RedTail. Devlin hit a single to score two more, and Bridgewater singled to score one to put the RedTails up 8-0. Kriegel didn't want the inning to be over and hit a single to score Lebo and Bridgewater.
The Greyhounds got four runs back in the bottom of the first. They did so on two walks, one RedTail error, two singles, and a wild pitch.
Hawkeye put more runs on in the second inning. Eads walked and a two out rally triple by Devlin scored Eads. Bridgewater then hit a single to score Devlin.
The bottom of the third gave Moberly a few more runs, making the score 12-5 after three.
In the fourth, Hawkeye had an Eads single, Devlin single, Lebo triple, Kriegel hit by pitch, and Eickert homerun, giving the RedTails a 17-5 lead.
A walk and homerun gave two more runs to Moberly Area.
The final run for Hawkeye was scored in the top of the fifth when Techam hit a single and moved to second when Eads was hit by a pitch. A fielders choice loaded the bases, and a Ballard walk scored Techam.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Greyhounds scored two more runs on two singles and a fielder's choice, making the final score 18-9 in favor of Hawkeye.
At the plate, Devlin was 3-3 with three runs scored, two runs batted in, and one triple. Bridgewater added three hits of her own. On the mound, Sienknecht got the win, going three innings, giving up three hits, five runs, three earned, three walks, and two strikeouts. Lily McCarty threw one inning, giving up one hit, two earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. McKillip pitched the final inning, giving up two hits and two earned runs.
