RedTails Win One More on Final Day in Florida
The Hawkeye RedTail Softball Team completed their trip to Florida with two more games at The Spring Games. They won the first game, beating Triton College 4-2, and lost the second game, losing to John Wood Community College 8-4.
Game One: 4 (HCC), 2 (TC)
The game only saw scoring in two innings during the game. It was a pitchers dual through the first two innings, with both teams only putting on one runner.
In the third inning, Triton struck first. A RedTail error put a runner on first, and a single put runners on first and second. An error scored one, and a single scored one and put runners on the corner with a 2-0 lead for Triton and no outs. A fly ball to left field gave the RedTails the first out, but a Triton runner tried to tag and score, and she was thrown out by left fielder Mackenzie Bridgewater, making it a double play and giving Hawkeye two outs, and the momentum.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hawkeye found their groove at the plate. Lucy Lebo started the inning with a walk and moved to second on an Isabelle Kriegel single. Ellie Lorenz doubled to score one and put two runners on. Alyvia Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to score Kriegel, and Mya Chamberlin doubled to score Lorenz, giving the RedTails a 3-2 lead. Olivia Techam walked, Jordan Eads hit an error, and Hailey Harbour singled to score the final run of the game.
The rest of the game was a defensive and pitchers dual, and Triton was unable to score and Hawkeye held on to their 4-2 lead to win.
Harbour led the way at the plate, going 1-2 with one hit, one run batted in, and one walk. Chamberlin got the win on the mound, going seven innings, giving up just four hits, two runs, zero earned, one walk, and three strikeouts.
Game Two: 8 (JWCC), 4 (HCC)
The RedTails started the first inning with a walk by Bridgewater and single by Kriegel, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
The Trailblazers opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first, scoring on a walk, two singles, and a double. The third inning saw two more runs cross for John Wood, two singles, a walk, and sacrifice bunt allowed them to go up 5-0.
John Wood went up by two more run sin the fifth inning, scoring on a walk, single, and double.
Hawkeye found some life in the top of the fifth when Jordan Eads started with a single, moved to second on a Bridgewater single, and loaded bases when Kriegel forced an error. Anderson hit her second sacrifice fly of the day to score Eads.
Jordan Trueblood drew a walk in the fifth inning and scored on an Eads double. Emilee Bergmann and Bridgewater walked to load the bases. Kriegel singled to score two, making the score 7-4.
John Wood responded by scoring one more run in the sixth, scoring on a double, single, and sacrifice fly.
Unable to put any more runs up in the seventh, the RedTails ended up losing 8-4.

On the mound, Adelyn Sienknecht took the loss, going 2.1 innings, giving up six hits, six earned runs, three walks, and two strikeouts.
