RedTail Bats Overpower Raiders
The Hawkeye RedTail Softball team hosted Central Community College – Columbus on Friday, April 3rd. Due to weather, the RedTails moved the games to Independence, Iowa at their local turf fields. Game one was completed in full, with the RedTails coming out on top 11-0, but game two has been haulted halfway through because of inclement weather.
Game One: 11 (HCC), 0 (CCC); 5 innings
Three up, three down for the defense of the RedTails allowed them to bring up their bats in the first inning. Isabelle Kriegel and Mya Chamberlin hit back to back singles, Ellie Lorenz walked to load the bases, and two runs were scored off a Jordan Trueblood double.
Another three up, three down inning brought up the bats of the RedTails in the bottom of the second. Jordan Eads, Emilee Bergmann, and Mackenzie Bridgewater all singled to load the bases. Kriegel hit a double to clear the bases, making the score 5-0 in favor of the RedTails. Chamberlin followed through with a double to score Kriegel, and Lorenz hit a ground ball to score Chamberlin.
A third three up three down inning recorded by Chamberlin brought up Rylie Devlin to the plate for Hawkeye. Devlin hit a double to start the bottom of the third and scored on a single from Eads. Bridgewater singled, and Kriegel forced a Raider error to allow two runs to score. Up 10-0, Hawkeye found one more run cross home plate when Lorenz hit a single to score Kriegel.
The RedTails shut down the offense of Columbus, ending the game in five innings.
At the plate, Kriegel led the way going 2-3 with three runs scored and five runs batted in. Bridgewater, Chamberlin, and Eads each had two hits in the game. On the mound, Chamberlin had a great day going five innings, giving up just one hit, no runs, one walk, and three strikeouts.
Game Two: Postponed
Game two was postponed due to weather, game time will resume at a future date to be determined.
The RedTails host Northeast Community College at home on Monday, April 6th at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
