RedTails Sweep Final Home Games
The RedTails hosted their final home game of the season against Ellsworth Community College. The RedTails won both, winning game one 9-1 in six innings and winning game two 8-0 in six innings.
Game One: 9 (HCC), 1 (ECC)
Ellsworth got on the scoreboard first, but they were held scoreless the rest of the two games. They scored on a single, single, and RedTail error.
The game was quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning for the RedTails. Emilee Bergmann started the inning off with a walk and moved to third on a Jordan Eads double. Rylie Devlin hit a single to the infield to load the bases. Bergmann quickly swiped home on a wild pitch, and Mackenzie Bridgewater put the ball in play to score Eads. Up 2-1 now, Isabelle Kriegel decided to take matters into her own hands and hit a two-run homerun.
The RedTails weren't done in the fifth inning. Alyvia Anderson forced a Panther error to get to first and moved to second on a Jordan Trueblood single. A Devlin homerun scores three runs to make it a 7-1 ball game.
In the sixth inning and a run-rule on the horizon, Kriegel steps up and hits a solo shot to make it a seven-run lead. Needing just one more run to end the game early, Mya Chamberlin decided back-to-back homeruns would be a fun way to end the game, making it a 9-1 win for the RedTails
At the plate, Kriegel led the way going 2-2 with two runs scored, three runs batted in, two walks, and two homeruns. Eads and Devlin each had two hits in the game. Chamberlin got the win on the mound, going six innings, giving up five hits, one run, zero earned, one walk, and three strikeouts.
Game Two: 8 (HCC), 0 (ECC)
The RedTails got out to a quick start in the Bridgewater led the game off with a walk and stole second. Kriegel then grounded out to move Bridgewater to third, and a single from Delaney Eickert allowed her to cross home to make it a 1-0 game.
In the third, Hawkeye tacked on five runs. Kriegel started with a single and moved to third on a Chamberlin double. Another Eickert single allowed two runs to score. Hailey Harbour added a hit to keep the inning alive, and Bergmann hit a double to score one more RedTail. Eads hit a single and Devlin hit a sacrifice fly, giving the RedTails a 6-0 advantage.
In the fourth, Chamberlin hit her second home run of the day, making it 7-0.
With another chance to end the game early, the RedTails came knocking at the door. Bridgewater doubled and scored when Keira Rathjen hit a fly ball to right field. Bridgewater advanced to third on the tag up, and a Panther error allowed Bridgewater to score, ending the game 8-0.
Eickert led the way, going 2-2 with one run scored, three runs batted in, and one walk. Seven other RedTails tallied hits in the game. Lillian McCarty went the distance on the mound, going six innings, giving up four hits, no runs, one walk, and five strikeouts.
The RedTails are on the road this weekend at Boone, IA on Saturday and Estherville, IA on Sunday. Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:00 PM for both days. This series will determine final seedings for conference tournament coming up on May 1st.
