RedTails Open Up Conference Tournament Play
The RedTail Softball Team opened up conference tournament play on Friday, May 1st. The RedTails earned the sixth seed in the tournament, landing them at Des Moines Area Community College and faced Iowa Central Community College for the opening game.

The Tritons got the best of the RedTails, despite outhitting their opponent.
Iowa Central scored three runs in the first inning on a single, walk, and two RedTail errors.
The RedTails responded quickly in the top of the second. Jordan Trueblood led the inning off with a single and moved to second when Emilee Bergmann was hit by a pitch. The two advanced bases on a wild pitch, and Jordan Eads hit a single to score one. Isabelle Kriegel walked to load the bases, and Mya Chamberlin forced a Triton error to score one run. Ellie Lorenz then hit a double to add two more runs to the board, giving the RedTails a 4-3 lead.
Iowa Central went up two runs in the second when they scored three on a double, hit by pitch, two singles, sacrifice fly, and RedTail error.
Hawkeye wasn't done yet. Kriegel walked and moved to third on a Chamberlin double. Alyvia Anderson hit a single to score one, and Trueblood hit forced a fielder's choice to score another, tying the game at six all.
The Tritons bats were too much to stop in the bottom of the fourth when they hit two, two-run home runs to take a 10-6 lead.
The RedTails were unable to put any more runs across the board the rest of the game, and Iowa Central added two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to end the game early.
At the plate, Lorenz led the going 2-4 with two runs batted in. Bergmann, Anderson, and Jordan Eads each had two hits in the game. On the mound, Chamberlin took the loss, going three innings, giving up seven hits, nine runs, five earned, two walks, and four strikeouts. Adelyn Sienknecht went one inning, giving up one hit, three runs, three earned, three walks, and one strikeout. Lillian McCarty went 1.2 innings, giving up two hits, two runs, zero earned, and one strikeout.
Despite the loss, the RedTails stay alive and compete on May 2nd in the tournament and fight to continue their season.
